It is hard to think clearly when you are in pain and your boss is putting you on the spot. They might seem nice, but you need to protect yourself.
Here are simple, respectful words you can use. The goal is to end the conversation politely without agreeing to anything.
If Your Boss Offers You Cash, You Can Say:
* “Thank you, I appreciate that. Right now, I just need to focus on seeing a doctor. I can’t accept any money.”
* “I need some time to think. My health is the most important thing right now.”
* “I have to follow the correct process for a work injury. Thank you for the offer, but I cannot take it.”
If Your Boss Asks You to Sign a Paper, You Can Say:
* “I never sign anything without reading it carefully at home first. I will take it with me.”
* “I need to have someone help me understand this before I can sign it.”
What to AVOID Saying:
* **Don’t say “Okay” or “Yes.”** This can be used against you later.
* **Don’t argue or get angry.** Just be calm and firm.
* **Don’t negotiate.** Do not ask for more money. This is not a negotiation; it is a trap.
You have the right to say no, the right to take your time, and the right to protect your family’s future.
