In September 2018, Helen Dalton realized that the Austin Street office that had served her so well for almost a quarter century was now just too small for her continually growing practice In late November 2018, Helen Dalton took the keys of her new space, trading 900 square feet in Forest Hills, for 3200 square feet in a nationally – acclaimed high – rise Kew Gardens. The move to 8002 Kew Gardens Road started in the early morning before the sun was even out and continued throughout the day until long after the sun had set. With a corner office and floor to ceiling windows, Helen Dalton was settled in.
The joy and happiness of the move would be short lived. While spending the Christmas holidays with her entire family in Europe, Helen Dalton suddenly and unexpectedly passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 26th, 2018.
Helen’s partners and associates mourned the loss of a great attorney and even greater person. Helen Dalton’s long-time partner along with her long-time personal paralegal flew to Ireland to not only deliver her eulogy but to stand as a testament of all those who mourned a Giant of the Legal Field. Helen Dalton was laid to rest on a crisp Irish morning with clear skies.
The future of the firm now rest on the shoulders of the next generation. While this could have easily been the end of Helen F. Dalton & Associate, P.C., her long – time partners and associates were not about to let that happen. Taking the reigns of Helen’s law firm would be her long-time managing attorney, closest counsel, and dearest friend Roman Avshalumov. Roman would be joined by Sofya Janashvili who Helen Dalton watched grow up and become a brilliant attorney. In fact, it was said by Helen Dalton herself, that she hoped that Sofy would one day replace her so she could one day retire to a beach and spend her day reading.
Together, Roman and Sofy were tasked to lead Helen’s staff and continue her firm. Roman and Sofy had already earned the respect of the staff throughout the years, so it was a natural transition. With the staff steadfastly behind them, Roman and Sofy jumped into their roles as Co – Managing Directors. With Helen F. Dalton on their minds and in their thoughts, the firm she established crossed the milestone 25 years and counting with Roman and Sofy looking resolute toward the future.
